The head of state traveled to address defense personnel in the Donetsk region on the weekday. Zelenskyy announced that he engaged with soldiers at the military base of the initial brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine Azov, which is conducting a defensive operation in the Dobropillya area, a town approximately a short distance from Pokrovsk.

Intense Situation in Pokrovsk

Updated analysis from a Ukrainian project indicated that Russian forces had made gains into Pokrovsk and nearby locations, though much of it remained beyond firm control by either side. The status is precarious, with reports indicating that opposition troops were fortifying positions and enhancing fortifications in some districts.

Russian forces continue to advance in the Pokrovsk sector and are reportedly acting with enhanced confidence within urban Pokrovsk.

Analysts commented that Ukrainian forces had recaptured substantial territory of a Russian penetration in the Dobropillya area, on the east side of the Pokrovsk operation.

Kyiv's Drone Strikes Deep Inside Russian Territory

Ukrainian long-range drones struck a factory approximately over 800 miles inside Russia at the location. City administration announced a detonation at the Sterlitamak Petrochemical Plant that led to the partial collapse to suffer damage, adding that the origin of the detonation was not known. The armed forces leadership stated there was significant destruction to the facility.

Defense units reported hitting a fuel processing plant at the location in the federal district east of Moscow. The extent of the damage was being assessed. The local official verified an assault by multiple unmanned aircraft near the refinery.

Russian law prohibits recruits from being assigned to fighting, but after their military service they enter Russia's reserves, putting them at risk of being assigned to combat zones.

Heavy military spending have also started to pressure the national finances, with the government increasing levies to plug a rising deficit.

Ukrainian Leader's Calls for Global Assistance

The national leader appealed to Washington to stay receptive to supplying Kyiv with far-reaching military equipment. Appealing to European leaders from the Pokrovsk area, the Ukrainian president also demanded more global measures on Russia – including on Russia's gas and nuclear sectors – and said he desired European Union membership before 2030.

Foreign Assistance and Foreign Policy Developments

Germany plans to increase defense support to Ukraine by a substantial amount next year to about €11.5bn, the finance ministry in Berlin said on the weekday. This incorporates, among other things, heavy weapons, unmanned aircraft, armoured vehicles and the replacement of two Patriot systems.
